There is now a growing feeling that Chelsea could sign England international Ivan Toney from Brentford before Friday’s transfer deadline.
That is according to the Independent.
So, what is the latest on Ivan Toney and Chelsea? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, the Brentford No.17 did not seem likely to move this summer as he finds himself banned until January after breaching betting rules.
However, that has not put Chelsea off.
The Independent believe there is a chance of the Blues signing Toney before Friday’s transfer deadline, although Brentford want £80m for their talisman.
Before his ban, the 27-year-old was certainly playing like an £80m striker.
Toney scored 20 goals in 33 Premier League appearances last season, with only Harry Kane and Erling Haaland netting more in England’s top-flight.

Mauricio Pochettino has already admitted that he wants Chelsea to sign a new forward before the transfer window slams shut.
While the Argentine would not be able to use Toney until January due to his ban, there is no doubt that the Northampton-born frontman would be a superb signing when available.
Ivan Toney could be a new Didier Drogba for Chelsea
In our view, Toney has the talent required to break Chelsea’s No.9 curse and give the Blues a real presence up front, which fans haven’t seen since the days of Didier Drogba and Diego Costa.
The Brentford talisman can score all types of goals, ranging from towering headers, delicate dinks or simple power drivers, just like the Ivorian used to display at Stamford Bridge.

Of course, there is some risk in signing a player for £80m when he’ll have been sidelined for eight months by the time of his return.
However, finding a striker who can score 20 goals in one Premier League season is not easy, so you can understand why Chelsea are keen to jump the queue and sign Toney now.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as anything could happen before Friday’s deadline.
