'They are not worried': Romano suggests club don't think Chelsea will be signing their £42m man

Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Spanish club Barcelona are not worried about Chelsea rumours linking them to their young prospect Gavi.

Chelsea have been linked this week with Barcelona’s 17-year-old star, who currently has a release clause worth €50million (£42million) at Camp Nou.

However, Romano reports that the La Liga giants are not concerned by transfer speculation tipping him with a switch to England.

It is understood that “talks are progressing” over a new deal for Gavi to extend his stay with Barcelona. Apparently, a five-year contract extension may soon be wrapped up.

Some Chelsea fans expressed their joy last night about targeting Gavi, but their delight may be short-lived with a new contract looming.

Gavi a Barcelona jewel

It’s obvious there is a massive rebuilding job going on right now with Barcelona, so they definitely won’t want to lose an amazing talent to come out of the academy.

Gavi is ticking all the right boxes in the early stages of his career to be another gem from La Masia.

The technical central midfielder has made a serious impact during a first-team breakthrough this season and it’ll be interesting to see how he fares under new manager Xavi.

He’s already earned four international caps in 2021 under Spain boss Luis Enrique.

Chelsea midfield in good hands

Gavi’s potential looks out of the world, so you can’t blame Chelsea sniffing around while a £42million release clause is in play.

However, Thomas Tuchel’s Blues are stacked with options in the centre of the park.

Ruben Loftus-Cheek’s mini rival, along with players like N’Golo Kante, Jorginho and Mateo Kovacic, means Chelsea are rich of quality in midfield.
