‘They would prefer’: Sky reporter hints that ‘amazing’ 24-year-old could now be sent to Chelsea

PSG would prefer to send Kylian Mbappe to a club outside of the Champions League – which opens up a door for Chelsea.

That is according to Kaveh Solhekol of Sky Sports.

What’s the story?

Well, Chelsea’s failure to qualify for the Champions League in the 2022/23 campaign represented a real blow for the Blues, but it could now be a blessing in disguise.

Solhekol believes PSG do not want to face Mbappe in the Champions League next season if he decides against a move to Saudi Arabia, where Al-Hilal have offered him a £603m-a-year contract after making a £259m bid.

As a result, those at the Parc des Princes would prefer to send the 24-year-old to a club like Chelsea or Tottenham, who will not be competing in next season’s Champions League.

Solhekol said on Sky Sports: “If Mbappe says no to Saudi Arabia and PSG stick to their position that he is not going to play for them again, then there is a situation where the clock is ticking and we’ll get to Deadline Day and PSG would be in a position to send him out on loan.

“At least then they’d get a loan fee and a club to pay his wages. Therefore, he’s out of the way. They would prefer to do that with a club who aren’t in the Champions League – maybe a club like Chelsea would come into play or Tottenham. He would need to be playing to stay fit for the Euros next summer.”

PSG are determined to offload Mbappe this summer, as the Parisians strongly believe he has an agreement to join Real Madrid on a free transfer when his contract expires next summer.

Unsurprisingly, the French giants do not wish to lose their £166m man for nothing, hence why he is now on the market.

Chelsea must be front of the queue for Mbappe if he rejects Al-Hilal

If Mbappe – who Mauricio Pochettino once called “amazing” – rejects a move to Saudi Arabia, it would seem Chelsea actually have a decent chance of securing his services.

Opportunities like this do not come around often in football, so those on the recruitment team at Stamford Bridge must ensure that they are well positioned to take advantage.
