Chelsea are facing fierce competitions from several top clubs such as Manchester United and Liverpool for Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho and should consider some alternatives for the summer transfer window.

The 19-year-old is one of Europe’s hottest prospects, having scored 14 goals and provided 15 assists in the Bundesliga this season. With Willian and Pedro in the final months of their respective contracts, Chelsea are looking for a young fresh winger to bolster the squad.

Landing Sancho would not come cheap, however. Dortmund have reportedly slapped £120 million price tag on the winger (Daily Mail). That sort of spending would hinder Chelsea from investing in other areas such as on a left-back or a goalkeeper.

Chelsea are in need of a goalscoring winger to compete with Liverpool and Manchester City next season, and Sancho could be the solution to the problem. But he is not the only winger with an eye for goal that Chelsea should consider.

Leroy Sane (Manchester City)

Leroy Sane has not played a minute for Manchester City since August 2019 due to long-term injury, but he can be a major boost for Chelsea if he can get back to his last season’s form.

He had 14 goals and 14 assists for Manchester City last season and played an important part in Manchester City’s domination in English football.

Tempting Manchester City to sell to a Premier League rival, however, could be a major stumbling block.

Kai Havertz (Bayer Leverkusen)

Another player Chelsea could bring to improve next season’s goalscoring threat would be Bayer Leverkusen’s Kai Havertz.

Although he is more of a midfielder than a forward, he has mostly been deployed on the right wing in Bundesliga this season. The 20-year-old has had nine goals and seven assists in all competitions for Leverkusen.

In November, the Metro claimed Chelsea were among the list of clubs in talks to sign Havertz, which suggests the club’s interest in the player.

His versatility to play in several positions in advanced midfield positions would make him a good addition to Frank Lampard’s squad next season.

Jeremie Boga (Sassuolo)

A cheaper alternative would be re-signing Jeremie Boga from Sassuolo. The Blues reportedly inserted a £12.7 million (€15m) buy-back clause when selling him to the Serie A side in 2018 (The Sun).

The 23-year-old has had a fine season in Italy, bagging eight goals and two assists from 24 appearances in Serie A.

Extending Willian’s contract

Another option would be simply keeping Willian beyond summer. The 32-year-old has been Chelsea’s main creative outlet this season and could be useful as a squad player next season.

Chelsea have also sealed the signing of Ajax’s Hakim Ziyech. With Christian Pulisic and Callum Hudson-Odoi already at Lampard’s disposal, perhaps Chelsea should spend the budget somewhere else on the pitch.
