Chelsea may not have to worry about Tottenham Hotspur in the race for Brentford striker Ivan Toney.

According to FootballTransfers, Tottenham have dropped their interest in Ivan Toney and are now focusing on another forward.

It is good news for Chelsea, who continue to be linked with a move for the 27-year-old.

The Evening Standard recently reported that Toney is just one striker who the Blues are currently interested in.

If they do decide to make a move for the England international, it now looks like there could be one less team to worry about, with FootballTransfers claiming that Tottenham are no longer in for him and have switched their attention to Barcelona’s Brazilian winger Raphinha.

Chelsea can beat Tottenham to Ivan Toney’s signature

It may not matter too much whether Tottenham are interested in Toney or not. You suspect Chelsea would fancy their chances in a transfer battle with the north London club.

The Blues have recent success and the money and sooner or later, you would expect them to return to the Champions League.

Tottenham, in contrast, have not won a major honour since 2008 and while they have a good chance of qualifying for next season’s Champions League, you do not really know what you can expect from them beyond that.

Chelsea spend so much money that you would imagine that they will get it right eventually. It would not be wise to rule anything out, but if the club desperately want Toney and Spurs are their main competitor, it would be a bit of a surprise if the former Peterborough man did not end up at Stamford Bridge.

Again, anything can happen and the Blues do seem to have other options they are considering, like Napoli’s Victor Osimhen. And given his experience at the top level, he may even be a better target to have, one may argue.
