Thomas Tuchel and Bayern Munich made a late attempt to hijack the agreement between Chelsea and Robert Sanchez.

That is according to the Daily Mail.

What’s the story?

Well, Chelsea managed to wrap up a £25m deal for the Spaniard on Saturday 5th August – tying him down to a contract lasting seven years.

However, Bayern Munich almost ruined things for Chelsea.

The Daily Mail believe Tuchel’s side checked to see if Sanchez’s move to Stamford Bridge had 100% gone through, after learning that he was available for just £25m.

Interestingly, the deal was not entirely finalised when Bayern Munich enquired about the situation, but the 25-year-old had his heart set on Chelsea, and the transfer was quickly finalised once he rejected the German giants.

Chelsea still involved after Bayern Munich miss out on Robert Sanchez

Despite failing to hijack Sanchez’s move to Chelsea, Bayern Munich are still involving the Blues in their search for a new goalkeeper.

How so? Well – according to the Evening Standard – Tuchel is now pushing to sign Kepa Arrizabalaga as he looks to find a backup for the injured Manuel Neuer.

It is said that Bayern Munich want to sign the Spaniard on an initial season-long loan deal, which includes an option to buy the 28-year-old on a permanent basis next summer.

The Evening Standard add that Chelsea will not stand in his way, and have shortlisted Valencia glovesman Giorgi Mamardashvili as a potential replacement – along with Borussia Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel.

Therefore, Sanchez could soon find himself as the only senior goalkeeper at Stamford Bridge, after Edouard Mendy was allowed to join Al Ahli earlier this summer.
