Chelsea’s first-team star is now being linked with a potential move away from Stamford Bridge after slipping down the pecking order.
Enzo Maresca has impressed everyone during his opening few months as Chelsea manager, particularly with the way that he’s made big and bold decisions with his team selection.
As a result, there’s some high-profile names in the Chelsea squad that have struggled for starts so far this season. For example, the likes of Enzo Fernandez, Joao Felix and Christopher Nkunku can’t get into the best starting line-up.

Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez eyed by Inter Milan and Barcelona
According to The Sun, Chelsea’s Enzo Fernandez is now attracting interest from European giants Inter Milan and Barcelona.
Inter and Barcelona, who are both in this season’s Champions League, are prepared to make an ‘audacious’ swoop for the 23-year-old Chelsea midfielder.
The report explains that the Argentina international is determined to fight for his place in west London. However, he’s got no intention of sitting on the bench for months as well.
Frank Lampard says Fernandez will have to work hard to get back into Chelsea’s XI because the midfield combination of Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo looks extremely strong.
Darren Bent is a huge fan of the Lavia and Caicedo combination at Chelsea, which is really beginning to take off in the last few matches.
Enzo Fernandez struggling this season
Unfortunately, Fernandez has had a difficult 2024/25 campaign to date. The central midfielder started the season captaining the side, but he’s lost his starting position in the Premier League during recent weeks.
Andy Townsend insisted Chelsea must get more out of “talented” Fernandez this year, but we’re yet to really see him find any rhythm under Maresca.
| Competition | Appearances | Starts | Goals | Assists |
| Premier League | 9 | 6 | 0 | 0 |
| Conference League qualifiers | 2 | 1 | 0 | 1 |
| Conference League | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 |
| Carabao Cup | 1 | 1 | 0 | 0 |
For now, it’s hard to picture Fernandez disrupting Chelsea’s starting pair of Lavia and Caicedo in the centre of the park. It would be foolish to completely write off the technical central midfielder, though.
The fact that Inter and Barcelona are circling for the Blues player highlights his quality, but will he be able to find his best form at Stamford Bridge in the current system?
