‘Very happy’: Chelsea are so pleased they managed to keep £50m player, Pochettino loves him

Chelsea are very pleased about keeping Conor Gallagher at Stamford Bridge this summer amid interest from Tottenham.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano.

What’s the story?

Well, Spurs had the England international in their sights on transfer deadline day, but were only going to make a move if Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg left N17.

Speaking on YouTube, Romano said: “Tottenham had Conor Gallagher on their list on deadline day, but (were going to make a move) only if they sold Hojbjerg to Atlético Madrid or any other club.

“Hojbjerg move collapsed around lunchtime so Tottenham never proposed a bid for Gallagher. Chelsea are also very happy with him staying because they believe he can be an important player.”

The reliable Italian journalist claimed that Chelsea were willing to sell the £50,000-a-week man for £50m after West Ham made a £40m bid back in July.

Mauricio Pochettino has already admitted that he thinks very highly of Gallagher.

Nizaar Kinsella of the Evening Standard quoted the Argentine as saying: “We are so happy with him. Gallagher shows great commitment for the club. We are happy with him and he was captain two days ago vs Wimbledon.”

Conor Gallagher can become an important player for Chelsea

In our view, Chelsea are right to think Gallagher can become a significant player at Stamford Bridge.

The Chelsea No.23 has struggled at times when used in a deeper role, but when deployed higher up the pitch, his pressing skills can cause opponents all sorts of problems.

Gallagher is also a Chelsea academy graduate – the Telegraph believe people within the club were furious about the sale of Lewis Hall to Newcastle, and feel those produced by the club should be kept ahold of.

Hopefully, Gallagher can develop his potential under Pochettino, and become a leader in west London.
