‘Very realistic’: Club now can afford to buy 23-year-old Chelsea man, they’ve wanted him for months – reporter

Borussia Dortmund have held a strong interest in signing Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher for months.

That is according to BILD reporter Christian Falk.

He claims German club Dortmund believe that Conor Gallagher is versatile enough to play a number of different midfield positions, which fits the profile they’re looking for. This comes after they sold England midfielder Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid this summer in a deal worth as much as £115million.

Falk has explained that Dortmund now have the money to afford Gallagher from Chelsea after Bellingham’s sale, which is why he’s described as a “very realistic” target.

“The interest in Conor Gallagher is very concrete and for months already. Now they see they need a player like Jude Bellingham, not just playing like Bellingham, but also showcasing an ability to play as a 6, 8 or 10. Dortmund see these things in Gallagher,” Christian Falk told CaughtOffside.

“The contract is until 2025, so they can pay him. They have the money from the Bellingham transfer and they also see – given he’s 23 years of age – he’s not too old to be an investment. So this is very realistic for Dortmund.”

The Daily Mail claimed earlier this month that Chelsea value Gallagher at around £50million amid interest from Newcastle United.

In our view, Mauricio Pochettino should get the final say on the player’s future as he prepares to begin his role as the Blues head coach very soon.

The Evening Standard says that Gallagher has received feedback that Pochettino wants to keep him in the squad at Stamford Bridge next season.

Let’s wait and see what happens during the summer months, though.

We would like to see better end product and more quality on the ball if he does stick around next season. However, there’s no doubting Gallagher’s overall commitment and work rate.
