Chelsea could soon be presented with an opportunity to sign Bradley Barcola – despite PSG already agreeing personal terms with the Lyon forward.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano.

So, what is the latest on Chelsea target Bradley Barcola? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well, the reliable Italian journalist believes Chelsea could soon be given a chance to sign the precocious France Under-21 international.

Romano believes Barcola agreed to join PSG in June after hiring Jorge Mendes as his agent, and negotiations between all parties reached an advanced stage.

However, Lyon are now changing their asking price – which Foot Mercato believe to be €50m (£43m) – which has left PSG feeling “very nervous” about the situation.

Romano told Caught Offside: “Chelsea have an interest in this fantastic talent from Lyon, but for the moment the player is giving his priority to PSG. In June, when the player changed agents to be represented by Jorge Mendes, personal terms with PSG got to a very advanced stage. Barcola said yes to PSG and so the clubs started to negotiate.

“However – from what I understand now – PSG are very nervous about the situation. They’re not happy at all, it’s a very tense situation.

“PSG aren’t happy because they feel Lyon keep on changing their asking price – one day it’s one number, another day another number. The player wants to go to PSG but Lyon are making it very difficult, and so between the clubs it’s complicated. One to follow because it could present an opportunity for other clubs like Chelsea to join the race.”

Chelsea should submit bid to intensify Bradley Barcola saga as PSG grow nervous

In our view, Chelsea should firm up their interest with a concrete bid.

Lyon seem reluctant to sell to PSG – presumably because they are rivals in Ligue 1 – so if Chelsea were to submit a respectable offer, it could see the French side willingly do business with the Blues.

After all, Chelsea and Lyon do have a strong relationship after the January signing of Malo Gusto – according to Football London.

Romano has also claimed that Chelsea are prioritising a creative No.10 who can operate out wide as well.

Interestingly, Barcola fits that profile, so we would suggest keeping an eye on this one as we enter the final nine days of the summer transfer window.
