Manager says he's trying to buy 20-year-old from Chelsea but it's difficult

Ralph Hasenhuttl has admitted that Chelsea’s current takeover saga is making it difficult to sort out Armando Broja’s next movements.

Hasenhuttl addressed the young striker’s future at Southampton during a press conference earlier today.

Nobody seems to be quite sure what will happen to Broja over the summer.

If his loan spell with the Saints is allowed to expire, he could either head back to Stamford Bridge or be on the road again.

That decision pretty much comes down to Chelsea, who are not in a great position to be making transfer promises.

They cannot commit to much until the new owners are announced, which could potentially happen next week.

But even if Roman Abramovich’s replacement is revealed soon, the process of changing ownership may continue deep into the month.

Whilst this goes on, those loaned out by the European champions wait to hear whether they will be reclaimed or recycled.

Conor Gallagher is almost certain to be picked up by Thomas Tuchel, but the same cannot confidently be said about Broja.

The 20-year-old has enjoyed a really good stint on the South coast, scoring nine goals across all competitions.

However, Chelsea’s attacking options are still pretty stocked, even despite Romelu Lukaku’s relatively low contribution.

Tuchel may want a more accomplished number nine if the hierarchy were to sign another in that position.

This could play into Southampton’s hands, as they attempt to tie down Broja permanently.

But as Hasenhuttl pointed out, this is not straightforward in the slightest.

“We are discussing this in the moment. We all know the situation at Chelsea,” said the Austrian on attempting to land Broja on a long-term deal.

“There are a lot of changes there. In the moment, it is not so easy to find the right person to talk to and speak about the futures of players.

“So, maybe it’s easier to focus on your job until the end of the season.”

Unfortunately for Hasenhuttl, even if Chelsea don’t want Broja, many other Premier League clubs would happily snap up his signature.

Not to mention teams outside of England, including reportedly Bayern Munich and AC Milan.

Broja’s agent could be busy from now until the campaign concludes.
