Barcelona are reportedly trying to close in on a deal to sign Chelsea’s Marcos Alonso this summer.
According to well-respected journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Barcelona are in “advanced” discussions for the 31-year-old Spaniard.
It is understood the wing-back wants a quick return to Spain. However, Marcos Alonso to Barcelona is going to hugely depend on the transfer cost.
Romano explains the La Liga giants won’t be paying a huge transfer fee to sign him because he’s entering the final year of his contract at Stamford Bridge, so all eyes are on Chelsea’s decision about his future.
Marcos Alonso to Barcelona
Romano’s already claimed this month there’s “no doubt” Alonso will exit Chelsea at the end of this season, but a move to the Camp Nou depends on the finances.
It’s encouraging from a Barcelona perspective that talks are advanced with the left wing-back.
It seems like a complete rebuild at Barca with their manager Xavi, so Alonso is looking to be a part of that process.
He’s a player that’s massively split the Blues fanbase over the years because of inconsistent performances. Alonso should be fondly remembered for some huge individual moments, though. Also, he was an important part of the Premier League title-winning team under Antonio Conte.

Another potential Chelsea exit
It sounds like Alonso may be yet another Blues player to leave west London this summer.
Antonio Rudiger’s imminent exit has already been confirmed to leave a huge hole in defence.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s squad have reportedly known for months that Blues centre-back Andreas Christensen will leave this summer.
It’s obvious Blues manager Thomas Tuchel could have quite the job on his hands when it comes to picking a new-look defence next season.
