The wait may nearly be over for Chelsea fans to see Jorrel Hato join them from Ajax.

There has been plenty of transfer speculation in recent weeks regarding Ajax star Jorrel Hato, 19, and a potential move to Chelsea.

The teenage defender has made 111 senior appearances for the Dutch giants since a promotion from the club’s famous academy, but it looks like he could be on his way to England.

The Chelsea Chronicle reports that Hato to Chelsea is a done deal as supporters wait for an official announcement from the club. Apparently, Hato truly believes in the project at Stamford Bridge, where he will look to kick on and develop into a top-class player.

Jorrel Hato to pen long-term deal at Chelsea

According to journalist Nicolo Schira via X, Chelsea are soon expected to confirm the signing of Ajax youngster Hato.

Apparently, a €50M (£43m) deal has been struck for the Netherlands international to complete a move to West London. It will bring the curtains down on a deal that has been in the works since May.

Schira adds that Hato will sign an eight-year contract with the Blues that runs until 2033.

Ajax have been resigned to selling Hato this summer despite rejecting Chelsea’s initial bid for him. Eventually, it looks like all parties have come to an agreement that suits everyone.

Jorrel Hato vs Marc Cucurella

Even though Hato can cover at centre-back, he predominately plays as a left-back. It’s great news that he can arrive at Chelsea to provide some much-needed competition and cover for Blues star Marc Cucurella next season.

The soon-to-be teammates are slightly different profiles at full-back, so we are excited to see how head coach Enzo Maresca uses them.

At first, we doubt Cucurella will be giving up his starting position, largely because he was excellent throughout the 2024/25 campaign. However, Hato arrives from Ajax as an outstanding young talent with so much potential to emerge as a top defender in Chelsea colours.
