Chelsea’s transfer mistake is there for all to see, as they look to buy Lewis Hall back for double the fee they were paid by Newcastle United.

Lewis Hall’s journey began in Chelsea‘s Cobham academy, where his breakthrough during a turbulent 2022/23 season caught the eye.

However, Chelsea’s squad reshaping led to his departure, initially on loan before a permanent £35 million move to Newcastle United.

Since swapping Stamford Bridge for St James’ Park, Hall has enjoyed an incredible transformation. He has developed into a Premier League regular and one of England’s best full-backs, even featuring in the Champions League and earning senior international honors.

Now, following Marc Cucurella’s move to Real Madrid, Chelsea are reportedly weighing up a potential return for Lewis Hall this summer.

Lewis Hall open to a new opportunity

TeamTalk have issued an update on Lewis Hall’s situation following interest from Chelsea and Manchester United, claiming that the defender is open to a move this summer.

Enquiries have been made regarding Hall’s situation, with the Blues looking at whether they should enter the race to bring the Englishman back to Stamford Bridge.

The prospect of a homecoming is viewed internally as an intriguing option given Hall’s familiarity with the club, Premier League experience and long-term potential.

Who would you rather see at left-back next season, Jorrel Hato or Lewis Hall?

Chelsea have to avoid the cheap way out

Chelsea desperately need to recruit a specialised left-back. Relying on internal stopgaps is a recipe for disaster under Xabi Alonso.

Valentin Barco is used to operating at left-back, but he’s excelled in the middle of midfield and is naturally viewed by many as a replacement for Enzo Fernandez.

Meanwhile, Jorrel Hato’s potential is clear, but he is naturally a centre-back and has historically struggled for consistency when shifted wide into a traditional full-back role.

To truly allow Alonso to build, Chelsea cannot compromise. Just look at what he was able to do with players like Alex Grimaldo at Bayer Leverkusen. The proof is there if you give him the right resources.
