Liverpool hold an interesting opinion on Chelsea after the Blues pipped the Reds to Southampton No.45 Romeo Lavia.
That is according to Neil Jones of Goal.
So, what do Liverpool think of Chelsea after losing out on Romeo Lavia? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well – as detailed by the Metro – Liverpool made three bids for the Belgium international.
All of those offers were rejected before the Reds surprisingly made a £111m bid for Moises Caicedo.
Chelsea eventually pipped Jürgen Klopp to the Ecuador international as well after offering a £115m sum, and – according to the BBC – the Blues have also now agreed a £53m fee with Southampton for Lavia.
Obviously, that is £3m more than Southampton were initially asking for the Belgian, and Liverpool feel Chelsea have now overpaid for the 19-year-old.
Jones told Caught Offside: “Lavia has been on their (Liverpool’s) radar for months, and they have had three bids rejected earlier this summer. Their reluctance to meet Southampton’s asking price, which has always been £50m, has cost them, as has their dramatic pivot towards Caicedo last week… they didn’t believe Lavia was worth £50m.”

Clearly, the Reds think Chelsea are overspending on the teenager.
Nevertheless, Chelsea appear to have won the race to sign Lavia, leaving Liverpool searching for alternative options with roughly two weeks remaining in the transfer window.
Liverpool must learn from Chelsea after Romeo Lavia disaster
In our view, Liverpool have been truly humiliated by Chelsea following the sagas involving Caicedo and Lavia.
Yes, maybe Lavia isn’t worth £53m after just one full season in the Premier League, but so what?
Liverpool felt the Belgian was required at Anfield after losing Jordan Henderson and Fabinho, so who cares if you have to spend £4m or £5m more than expected to solve the problem?

Chelsea – as usual – have been utterly ruthless in the market this summer, solving midfield issues of their own in a matter of weeks that Liverpool have not sorted out for years.
Rather than complain about overspending and what not, Liverpool should take a leaf out of Chelsea’s book in this instance, and act more aggressively at the negotiating table going forwards.
