What Shakhtar Donetsk gave to Mykhailo Mudryk just hours before Chelsea closed in on a deal

Shakhtar Donetsk awarded Mykhailo Mudryk a significant prize ahead of his reported move to Chelsea.

Mudryk is apparently on the verge of setting sail for Stamford Bridge, after the London side swooped in to steal the attacker off Arsenal.

The 22-year-old had looked destined to land in the north of the capital, but now his next destination appears to be the South West.

If Chelsea can strike a deal with Shakhtar, they will sign the Ukrainian international for around £88m.

This huge fee will take Todd Boehly’s net spend this season near the £400m, a figure that shatters the very fabric of FFP.

But Boehly won’t mind much about the financial setbacks, if it means acquiring the talented forward ahead of their Premier League rival.

Will Mykhailo Mudryk improve Chelsea?

Mudryk will add extra depth to a front line that is already full to the brim with expensive, and now possibly surplus to requirements, players.

His statistics this term easily outrank any of those currently stationed at Cobham.

He has scored 10 times and provided eight assists for the Ukrainian side, almost double his goal contribution from the previous campaign.

This excellent return recently earned him the club’s 2022 Player of the Year accolade, an honour Shakhtar announced on their Instagram yesterday.

A post that was shortly proceeded by a statement in regards to Mudryk’s imminent transfer to Chelsea.

Poorly timed, or a farewell post to their prized possession?
