After a brilliant start to the season, Lampard’s Chelsea side are experiencing their first sustained dip in form. With just three points from their last five games, the Blues are now just three points ahead of Tottenham in fifth place.
The club will no doubt want to see the team bounce back from this poor run as soon as possible, but you could argue that it has come at the best possible time. Just before the transfer window, one that Chelsea can sign players in. So which position should the Blues prioritise in January?

The Blues have been linked with many players, spread across several positions. The position seeing the least attention is the central midfield spots. N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, and Jorginho make up an extremely strong starting midfield, and there are some good quality substitutes waiting in the wings.
The main focus appears to be on strengthening the attack and the defence. But where should the club focus on strengthening first? Both areas have been questioned of late, with Chelsea looking less deadly in and around the opposition box, and more dangerous in their own.

The Blues have scored the fifth-highest amount of goals in the Premier League this season, which suggests that the attack is not the problem.
It is the defence that Lampard should be worried about. His side have conceded the second-highest amount of any top ten outfit in the league, and have not kept a clean sheet in any competition since early November.
If the team can sure up at the back, their form will turn around. Whether it be at full-back or centre-back, the defence is the position Chelsea must prioritise in January.
