Why does Christopher Nkunku celebrate with a balloon? Many have asked after Chelsea announced the Frenchman’s arrival.
The Blues have officially sealed a £63m deal for the 25-year-old following his stunning displays with RB Leipzig in Germany, where fans of the Bundesliga often saw him celebrate goals with a balloon in his mouth.
So, why does Christopher Nkunku celebrate with a balloon? Let’s take a look…
Why does Nkunku celebrate with a balloon?
Well, the France international has actually explained the reason behind his balloon celebration in the past.
The Sun quote Nkunku as saying: “The ballon was for my son. He likes balloons.”
Typically, the 2022/23 Bundesliga Golden Boot winner carries the balloon around in one of his socks, before blowing it up after scoring.

Chelsea’s new £63m man has performed the celebration on a number of occasions now, although he may find himself fighting against the Football Association as he prepares to bring the balloon to England.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has previously been yellow carded for wearing a mask to celebrate a goal, due to the fact it covered up his face.
FA rules state that a player must be booked if their celebration involves any of the following:
- Climbing onto a perimeter fence and/or approaching the spectators in a manner which causes safety and/or security issues
- Gesturing or acting in a provocative, derisory or inflammatory way
- Covering the head or face with a mask or other similar item
- Removing the shirt or covering the head with the shirt
It is fairly subjective, although if Nkunku blows the balloon up enough so that it covers his face during a celebration, then officials could decide to act – although that would be very harsh.
Whether Nkunku decides to bring the celebration to Chelsea or not, the Blues should expect plenty of goals from their latest signing next season.
