Why Chelsea believe Nicolas Jackson is worth more than £79m Hugo Ekitike as Blues set price

If any club is hoping to sign Chelsea striker Nicolas Jackson on the cheap this summer, then they are going to be left disappointed.

After making 37 appearances last season, Jackson no longer looks to be a key player for Chelsea.

He has slipped down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge following the arrivals of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap.

Jackson wants to continue playing in England, but Premier League clubs will have to offer big money to sign him, and that is largely because of Hugo Ekitike and his imminent move to Liverpool.

Chelsea point towards Nicolas Jackson’s Premier League record

Ekitike is set to join Liverpool from Eintracht Frankfurt in a whopping £79m deal.

The 23-year-old has never played in the Premier League before, whereas Jackson has. According to talkSPORT, Chelsea are now using Jackson’s pedigree in the English top flight as a reason to set his price tag higher than Ekitike’s.

The outlet claims that Chelsea believe Jackson’s goal record in the Premier League makes him worth more money than Ekitike and have thus put an £80m valuation on him.

It remains to be seen whether anyone will actually pay that for the Senegal international. But if Manchester United, for example, can agree on a fee with Chelsea, then he could leave Enzo Maresca‘s side to join Ruben Amorim’s men this summer.

It is thought that Jackson would consider United as an option if something can be agreed.

What does Nicolas Jackson’s Premier League record look like?

Jackson has not been the most prolific striker in England since arriving from Villarreal in 2023. However, his record is not the worst, especially for a forward who is still developing.

In total, the Chelsea man has scored 24 goals in 65 Premier League appearances since the start of the 2023/24 season.

The above probably does not warrant an £80m transfer fee, but if Ekitike is going for practically the same price after one good campaign in the Bundesliga, then Chelsea have grounds to ask for similar money.
