Confirmation of Chelsea’s £117m deal to sign Morgan Rogers is expected to be announced at some point today, but there is a world where Chelsea immediately receive more than half of that fee back.
Rogers has put pen to paper on a six-year deal with an option to extend it until 2033. The England star will become a club-record signing for Chelsea, and the fourth biggest deal in the history of the game.

It is a big outlay, but Chelsea have managed to do a deal with Aston Villa after the Midlands club told interested parties that Rogers would cost more than Elliot Anderson. The latter joined City for £116m.
Arsenal refused to pay it, while Man United and PSG did not act on their interest. Chelsea are paying an enormous amount of money for Rogers, but in truth, they could actually receive £65m of it back.

While it reads as £117m, only £23.4m will be recorded on the books this season. They will, however, continue to add £23.4m every summer for the next four years after this one before reaching £117m.
However, a whole lot of that fee could be wiped out. Chelsea have already received north of £120m from four sales, permanently selling Marc Cucurella, Tyrique George, Andrey Santos and Jimmy-Jay Morgan.
Last summer, Chelsea raked in north of £300m and this summer, they are on course to do the same even if they don’t sell Enzo Fernandez. Alejandro Garnacho, Trevoh Chalobah and plenty of others could go.
But another name could see Chelsea instantly receive more than half of the Rogers fee back. Ben Jacobs says Chelsea rate Nicolas Jackson at £65m, with Aston Villa and Unai Emery among the clubs interested.

Amid the reports that Rogers had agreed to join, it also emerged that Villa had asked about Jackson in Chelsea’s talks for Rogers. Chelsea did not rule out a sale, but they were not pushing him out either.
Jackson has returned from a loan at Bayern Munich and with Enzo Maresca gone, there is a feeling he would like to stay and show what he can do. Jackson is due back for pre-season at Chelsea this week.

The second back of four is not a midfield, but an attacking quartet.
Alonso has been keen to take a look at Jackson and the plan is to take the striker to Australia so the Chelsea manager can assess him before making a decision. Villa may prevent that from happening.
Emery worked with Jackson at Villarreal and is a known admirer of the Senegal star. With Villa’s coffers set to be improved by a whopping £117m, more than half of that could now be returned to Chelsea at £65m.
That means Chelsea would have basically signed Rogers for £52m and Jackson, if such a deal were to occur. Of course, for the sake of balancing the books, both deals would be concluded separately.
