Chelsea have been rocked by the news that Wesley Fofana has ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament – just hours after a £70m bid was rejected for Moises Caicedo.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the Blues now have a plan up their sleeve.
So, what are Chelsea preparing to do after Wesley Fofana suffered another setback? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, the reliable Italian journalist believes Chelsea “will look into” the centre-back market once they have submitted an improved bid for Caicedo.
Romano wrote on Twitter: “Chelsea will explore the centre backs market in the next days/weeks after Wesley Fofana’s injury, only acting if they find the right option.
“Chelsea will look into it after improving the bid for Moises Caicedo. No changes on Chelsea stance about Levi Colwill. Not for sale.”

The centre-back department initially looked like an area Mauricio Pochettino didn’t have to worry about.
However, Benoit Badiashile is still recovering from a hamstring injury, Kalidou Koulibaly has left for Saudi Arabia, and Fofana is now injured for a lengthy amount of time, so Chelsea could certainly do with a new central defender.
Chelsea should not forget about Trevoh Chalobah after Wesley Fofana injury
Chelsea have a habit of overlooking their own in preference of dipping into the transfer market.
It happened with Marc Guehi, who was sold to Crystal Palace for just £18m so Fofana could arrive in a £70m deal from Leicester.
The same can be said about Fikayo Tomori, who has developed into a superb footballer since Chelsea sold him to AC Milan.

Now, Chelsea must learn from their mistakes, and give serious consideration to handing Trevoh Chalobah an increased role next season in the absence of Fofana.
Cash needs to be put aside for a standout striker addition and also the improved bid for Caicedo, so Chelsea must think about saving some money by putting trust in Chalobah to do the business.
