‘Without a doubt’: Ally McCoist thinks Chelsea are about to let a ‘great player’ leave Stamford Bridge

Ally McCoist has been speaking to Eni Aluko about Chelsea on talkSPORT – where he became embroiled in a discussion about Kai Havertz.

The pair were arguing over whether the German would be a good signing for Arsenal or not.

So, what was said about Kai Havertz in full? Let’s take a look…

What’s the story?

Well – as you may have heard – the Chelsea No.29 is on his way to the Emirates Stadium in a deal worth £65m.

Havertz has signed a five-year contract with Arsenal, and is set to be announced shortly by the Gunners.

When discussing the news on talkSPORT, Aluko claimed that she doesn’t really understand why Mikel Arteta wants the Germany international, which caused McCoist to leap to the 24-year-old’s defence.

The 60-year-old said: “I’m the opposite! I think Havertz is one of them (someone who will help Arsenal win the Premier League).

“I think Havertz is a great player. He can play No.10, he can play midfield, I actually think Havertz would be a great signing. Without a doubt.”

We have to agree with McCoist.

Aluko used the fact that Havertz only scored seven Premier League goals last season as a stick to beat him with, although in truth, the German is not a prolific, out-and-out No.9 like Harry Kane or Erling Haaland, while Chelsea also struggled as a team in general last term.

Who Chelsea could replace Havertz with

A player like Havertz has to be used in a particular way, so for Chelsea to receive £65m for someone who Mauricio Pochettino may struggle to get 100% out of is a very good bit of business.

Now, it seems as if the Blues may target a more natural No.9 to lead the line, with the likes of Victor Osimhen, Dusan Vlahovic and Lautaro Martinez linked with moves to Stamford Bridge.

The most likely arrival out of those three – in our view – is Martinez.

A story from The Times claimed that Pochettino would love to sign his fellow Argentine, with the Daily Mail adding that the Inter Milan No.10 is Chelsea’s preferred striker target.

Be sure to keep an eye on developments at Chelsea, as a move for Martinez could happen once Havertz officially leaves.
