‘Would love’: Some fans buzzing with loan links to Chelsea player called ‘fantastic’ by Lampard
Newly-promoted Norwich City are being linked with Chelsea midfielder Billy Gilmour – and some Norwich fans on Twitter are excited about the possibility of signing him.
Gilmour is a highly rated youngster at Stamford Bridge that impressed with Scotland at Euro 2020 this summer before being forced to self-isolate because of a positive COVID-19 test.
The 20-year-old has had some brief opportunities in the Chelsea first team, but reports suggest he could exit on loan to gain more senior minutes.
According to Sky Sports, Norwich are in talks about signing Gilmour on loan for the 2021/22 season.
There will be Premier League football at Carrow Road next season after Norwich’s promotion from the Championship.
It is understood the Blues are prepared to send the Scottish rising star out on loan. However, they believe his long-term future is still with them.
A selection of Norwich fans on social media believe Gilmour would be a great coup for them.
He’s highly thought of by the Chelsea fanbase.
Ex-Blues manager Frank Lampard was extremely complimentary of him earlier this year.
“Against Krasnodar I thought he was fantastic. Against Manchester City, a really difficult game to come into, showed personality and quality. I’m delighted to have him ready to go. Billy is going to be a huge player for this club,” Lampard said in January.
Gilmour’s path into the Chelsea XI is blocked by Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and N’Golo Kante, so perhaps a loan makes sense for him at this stage of his career.
He would be joining a Norwich side that try to play an attractive style of football.
