Xabi Alonso personally tells Chelsea to hold off on selling £12m player

Chelsea are already working under some of the orders of Xabi Alonso, as he looks to shape his squad ahead of the July arrival date.

Despite his official start date approaching on July 1, Xabi Alonso is already fully in charge and asserting his authority on Chelsea’s summer plans.

It’s refreshing to see the ownership seemingly shifting their approach, which is something that Liam Rosenior and Enzo Maresca didn’t get the pleasure of. Rather than being left in the dark by boardroom decisions, the Spaniard is actively directing squad planning.

This structural shift was proven by Marc Cucurella’s recent £52 million move to Real Madrid. While media rumours framed the transfer as a sudden surprise, Alonso was fully aware of and aligned with the exit strategy, viewing it as a necessary step to reshape the defence.

Xabi Alonso wants to see Mamadou Sarr

Jeunes Footeux are reporting that RB Leipzig have registered their interest in Mamadou Sarr, but Chelsea are holding back at the request of Xabi Alonso.

He wants to see Sarr in action during pre-season before finalising a loan deal or a permanent transfer.

Despite his limited chances, Mamadou Sarr has no regrets about leaving Strasbourg for Chelsea, so perhaps he wants to stay and kick on this season under Alonso.

But ultimately, it will come down to Alonso.

Mamadou Sarr finds himself down the pecking order

Mamadou Sarr finds himself in a difficult situation at Chelsea. The 20-year-old, who recently celebrated an Africa Cup of Nations triumph with Senegal and a World Cup appearance, returned to Stamford Bridge early to integrate into the first-team squad.

However, Sarr faces an incredibly competitive battle for minutes. He is up against established and high-profile defenders like Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah, and recent signing Jorrel Hato, who have consistently been called upon.

But, this is a clean slate under Alonso, so everyone has a chance.

Alonso’s fluid system relies on a structured three-man defence that demands progressive passing, composure under intense pressure, and flexibility to invert into midfield during build-up play.

Believe it or not, his development in France under Liam Rosenior makes him an ideal fit for these demands, but he must adjust quickly if he wants a future here.
