‘He will have a huge role’: Micah Richards thinks Chelsea player will ‘reignite’ his season at the World Cup

Micah Richards thinks that Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling will “reignite” his season with some big performances at the World Cup.

Sterling, 27, made the surprise move in the summer from Manchester City to Chelsea.

The attacker is the top scorer for the Blues so far this season, netting five goals in 19 games across all competitions.

However, the wide man definitely still has a few gears to go through.

He started really impressively during Thomas Tuchel’s management in the early weeks of the season, but it feels like Graham Potter is still trying to get the best from him.

Sterling will reignite season

Pundit Micah Richards doesn’t believe that Sterling’s inconsistent time at Chelsea will impact his form in an England shirt.

In fact, he believes the winger will play a “huge role” for Gareth Southgate’s side out in Qatar.

“He has been a massive player for England and maybe the change of scenery will reignite what has been a frustrating season. Chelsea have been trying to work out how to play him. Southgate, by contrast, knows exactly what to do with him and he will have a huge role,” Richards told the Daily Mail.

In our view, Sterling has actually been one of the positive signings from the summer transfer spree.

Unfortunately, his form dipped in the few weeks leading into the World Cup, with Chelsea’s results and performances falling off a cliff.

He didn’t go into the previous international tournament with England in blistering Manchester City form, but was arguably his nation’s best player at Euro 2020.

Sterling, along with all his Chelsea teammates, probably just needed to draw a line under a few poor results.

Some players are getting in some rest over the next month before a busy season continues, but Sterling can build his own confidence back up by enjoying his time with England.
