Chelsea have reportedly once again completed a raid on Premier League rivals Brighton by hiring a member of their staff.

When you look at the last couple of years, Chelsea have on several occasions snapped up a mixture of staff, coaches and players from Brighton.

The Blues signed the likes of Moises Caicedo, Robert Sanchez and Marc Cucurella from the Seagulls. They took manager Graham Potter from the South Coast, too. Incidentally, The Telegraph now reports that Potter is one of the former Chelsea bosses considered for the England job.

On top of that, Chelsea made Brighton’s head of recruitment Sam Jewell their director of global recruitment earlier this year. Also, Blues co-sporting director Paul Winstanley arrived in west London from Brighton.

Chelsea to hire Brighton scout John Tweedy

According to i, Chelsea have now hired English scout John Tweedy from Brighton.

It is understood that highly-rated Tweedy, who operated as the wingers and No.10s scouting manager at Brighton, is joining Chelsea to follow in the footsteps of so many individuals.

The report explains that Tweedy has been hired to join the Blues academy. Apparently, he previously worked as the head of academy recruitment at Sunderland before joining Brighton in 2023, plus he spent time working at Manchester United.

A boost for the academy

While the focus and excitement at Chelsea is around all the chaos with the first-team squad, it’s crucial that the club’s academy structure is still taken good care of.

According to respected journalist Simon Phillips via his Substack this month, Chelsea co-owner Todd Boehly really likes the academy. In fact, he sees the value in the youth set-up at Cobham and knows how important it is.

The Blues have been experts over the years in bringing through future first-team stars, so let’s hope that production line doesn’t slow down.
