With Champions League football not including Chelsea this season, a number of supporters will have their eyes elsewhere during the European fixtures.

Last night will have seen plenty watching Manchester United, as they looked to get their first victory in the competition up against Galatasaray.

Blues loanee Hakim Ziyech was not available for the Turkish side, however former star Mason Mount was handed a start for the hosts.

He will not have enjoyed his evening though, as they fell to a damning 3-2 defeat at home.

While the England international did not particularly let his side down this time, a lot of fingers were pointed at goalkeeper Andre Onana for his part in the loss.

He hardly covered himself in glory for the opening goal from Wilfried Zaha, and carelessly gave possession away that saw Casemiro sent off.

While the subsequent penalty was missed, Mauro Icardi made the goalkeeper look foolish moments later when he chipped him to complete the turnaround.

Chelsea fans will be well aware that some at the club were keen to sign Onana this summer, as a goalkeeper was clearly on the agenda at Stamford Bridge.

However, they looked elsewhere and ended up signing Robert Sanchez for nearly half the price of the former Inter Milan man.

Despite a couple of shaky moments, the Spaniard now sits top for clean sheets this season, as well as pass accuracy.

This has seen him start every game for the Blues this season, and certainly feels like a big upgrade on last season’s options of Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy.

While Onana may well still turn things around at Old Trafford, the signs right now suggest Chelsea were okay to pass on this one.
