Graham Potter needs to give £10m Chelsea player his first start vs West Ham – TCC View

It’s time for Graham Potter to shake things up this Saturday when Chelsea travel to rivals West Ham in the Premier League.

In our view, Blues youngster David Datro Fofana needs to be unleashed and given his first ever start for the club.

If selected, the 20-year-old would be making a first Premier League start. He showed some real promise with a cameo appearance from the bench in last week’s league draw against Fulham, but supporters need to see more of him.

Chelsea are going to really learn a lot about the £10million striker if he’s given the opportunity in this weekend’s London derby.

It might sound fairly bold to chuck Fofana into a starting line-up for a trip to West Ham, but it’s the perfect opportunity to do so. As a young new signing, he must be desperate to show his new club what he’s all about.

Kai Havertz, 23, has had a run of starts and opportunities to try be effective as Chelsea’s central striker. However, it’s not the German attacker’s best position and Potter’s line-up still lacks a focal point.

Fofana has shown in two appearances as a Blues player that he’s a more recognised striker that can occupy defenders and perhaps stretch the play to bring teammates into the game at the top end of the pitch.

The Ivory Coast international is still a very raw talent, despite him scoring 24 goals in 65 games for former club Molde.

He needs to get his chance in a few days time against West Ham, though.

Turkish publication Fanatik recently claimed that Galatasaray were getting close in talks to sign Fofana.

But he’s still a Chelsea player that can add value on the pitch right now.

The Blues clearly recognised Fofana’s talent by coughing up £10million for him in January, so let’s see if this fearless youngster can be a possible solution to the club’s striker issue. Potter is going to learn nothing new if he keeps persisting with Havertz every match.
