Todd Boehly and Mauricio Pochettino have now made a potentially huge error at Chelsea following the sale of Lewis Hall to Newcastle.

The 18-year-old sealed a £35m move to St James’ Park on Tuesday, bringing an end to his 12-year stay at Stamford Bridge.

So, why might Todd Boehly and Mauricio Pochettino have made a mistake at Chelsea in selling Lewis Hall? Let’s take a look…

Well, the England Under-21 international truly does possess the potential to become a world class footballer, and we believe Chelsea will be made to regret their decision to sell him.

According to the Telegraph, Newcastle’s offer was simply too good for Boehly to refuse as the American attempts to keep finances in order at Stamford Bridge.

While we understand the decision to sell Hall in that sense, the financial issues are largely a problem of Boehly’s own making, and it is a sore consequence to lose a talent as precocious as Hall due to overspending.

Look at it this way.

The £63m signing of Marc Cucurella effectively forced Chelsea into selling a homegrown option in the left-back department, who is arguably already better than the Spaniard. That does not make for good reading whatsoever.

Chelsea could even regret Lewis Hall sale immediately

Aside from looking at the situation in regards to how accomplished Hall could become, the decision to sell him could even come back to bite Chelsea this season.

Ben Chilwell is not the most reliable when it comes to fitness, and Cucurella has struggled whenever the Blues have needed him. Therefore, Pochettino may find himself needing a player like Hall – who can also operate in central midfield – at some stage this term.

Interestingly, some at Chelsea are frustrated that the Spain international has not been sold, and Hall has – according to The Athletic – which pretty much sums it up.

The Chelsea academy graduate could develop into a £80m star in no time playing UEFA Champions League football under Eddie Howe – in this day and age, selling him for just £35m represents poor business.

Chelsea fans on social media have also made their frustration known after Hall was sold to Newcastle – if the versatile wonderkid develops into the player many expect him to become, Boehly and Pochettino will look very foolish indeed.
