Charly Musonda’s injury nightmare is gradually fading into the distance after he recorded another rare outing for Chelsea on the weekend.
Musonda started for the Under-23s against Blackburn Rovers yesterday, his second appearance of the season.
Although Andy Myers’ side lost 1-0 – their fourth defeat in seven Premier League 2 outings – it was a poignant personal moment for the Belgian.

He had been included in the initial XI twice in a row for the first time since 2018.
His return to action after 760 days out arrived in the 4-3 win over Liverpool at the end of September.
An EFL Trophy tie versus Swindon Town and a league draw with Everton Under-23s was Musonda’s only previous consecutive start.
Walking wounded
Repeated trips to the treatment room have denied the 24-year-old lift-off.
Whilst on loan with Vitesse Arnhem, the talented attacker tore his posterior cruciate ligament.
Over two years of Musonda’s career were ripped away from him, during a period where his skills were meant to take flight.

Whilst others from the Cobham school graduated to the first-team – Mason Mount and Reece James the shining pupils – the forward had to watch on from inside the classroom.
Or perhaps more relevantly, the medical office.
However, after hundreds of hours in turmoil, it seems Musonda is finally on the road to recovery.
Better than that, he has begun to pick up speed in the fast lane.
The fortunes of Chelsea’s development squad might not have changed, but the luck of their revived star certainly has.

But what does the future hold in for Musonda?
A loan move in January might be likely, considering he was left out of Thomas Tuchel’s Premier League group, to the dismay of Chelsea supporters.
Musonda teased fans with a cryptic social media post last month, revealing an announcement about his future would be ‘coming soon.’
Don’t keep us waiting too long, Charly.
