Kepa Arrizabalaga is now in line to succeed Cesar Azpilicueta as Chelsea captain as the Spaniard gets set to leave for Atlético Madrid.
That is according to the Evening Standard.
So, what are the details involving Kepa Arrizabalaga at Chelsea? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, this is a surprising update.
According to The Athletic, Kepa is one of three players Todd Boehly hopes to sell this summer, along with Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech.
Now – however – he could become captain of the Blues.
Nizaar Kinsella of the Evening Standard explains how the Spain international is in contention to wear the armband next season, along with Raheem Sterling, Reece James and Thiago Silva.

The latter is described as the frontrunner to take over the captaincy from Azpilicueta, having worn the armband at times last season when the 33-year-old was absent.
N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Mason Mount – who have all captained Chelsea at times in the past – would have been in contention as well, although they will not be at Stamford Bridge next season.
Kepa cannot be Chelsea captain
In our view, it would be a major shock if Pochettino named Kepa as captain.
The 28-year-old does not appear to be captain material, and it would not send out a good message if someone Boehly is looking to offload becomes the leader of the group.
Chelsea – according to A Bola – are keen to sign Diogo Costa from Porto, so Kepa may not even be starting for the Blues next season.

Ultimately, it would be odd if Pochettino didn’t name Silva as captain, given his immense experience and huge popularity among the fanbase, as well as within the squad.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as the Argentine is expected to name his new skipper soon once Azpilicueta’s move to Atlético Madrid is made official.
