Chelsea are now preparing a bid to sign Diogo Costa from Porto as Mauricio Pochettino looks to buy a standout goalkeeper.
That is according to A Bola in Portugal.
So, what is the latest on Diogo Costa and Chelsea? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, the Portuguese news outlet believe Chelsea are keen to sign a significant upgrade on Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy.
As a result, efforts to sign Costa from Porto are seemingly about to be stepped up.
A Bola believe Chelsea are planning to submit a €75m (£64m) bid for the Portugal international, with the Blues hoping to agree a deal which sees that sum paid across three instalments.
It is said that Chelsea want to pay €25m (£21m) now and the remaining €50m (£43m) in future, in order to comply with Financial Fair Play regulations.

Interest in Costa comes after he enjoyed a superb 2022/23 campaign, keeping 20 clean sheets in 41 appearances while conceding just 30 goals.
The 23-year-old also started for Portugal at the World Cup, where he left Cristiano Ronaldo stunned after coming dangerously close to throwing away a 3-2 win against Ghana, when he rolled the ball to Inaki Williams rather than kicking it long in the final few seconds.
Diogo Costa update may signal a change of plan by Chelsea
Recently, it was said that Pochettino is now planning to enter the 2023/24 campaign with Kepa as his No.1 goalkeeper – according to Sky Sports.
Clearly, that contradicts what A Bola have reported about Costa, so one news outlet is either being misled, or there has been a genuine change of plan at Stamford Bridge.

In our view, Chelsea should follow in the footsteps of Manchester City and Liverpool by spending big on a top goalkeeper – they can be the difference between a good season and a great one.
Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as an offer should soon be made for Costa.
