Fabrizio Romano says Thomas Tuchel is still ‘suffering’ following his departure from Chelsea at the start of September.

Speaking on the House of Champions YouTube channel, Romano shared his understanding of Tuchel’s emotions towards his former club.

It should come as little surprise to any of the Stamford Bridge faithful that the manager who delivered them so much success in a short period is feeling sore after his sudden exit.

Tuchel was axed by owner Todd Boehly a day after his side lost to Dinamo Zagreb 1-0 in the Champions League group stage earlier in the season.

Chelsea fans felt Tuchel’s departure

Supporters of the Blues were stunned by this turn events, considering how much Boehly had backed the German coach in the summer transfer market to build a squad able to compete for the elite competitions.

Their disbelief also arose from the connection Tuchel had built between himself and the fanbase, thanks to the numerous trophies he collected since taking the reigns in 2021.

However, loyalty is pretty short lived-in football nowadays.

A few disappointing results gave Boehly enough ammunition to remove Tuchel of his duties, and replace him with Graham Potter.

Tuchel takes Chelsea exit to heart

Whilst Potter continues to find his feet in South West London, his predecessor may have been putting his feet up as he awaits another managerial opening to pop up.

Where or when that will be remains a mystery, but Romano made it pretty clear that Tuchel hadn’t quite recovered from losing his latest job.

“From what I’m told, (he won’t be taking a break for) not so long, so I don’t see Thomas Tuchel being out of football for one or two years,” said the transfer guru.

“He is suffering with this Chelsea situation. He wanted to continue, he wanted to fight for his players, to fight for his club.

“He was really important in the market for Chelsea because many of the signings were decided together with Tuchel.

“(Pierre-Emerick) Aubameyang, (Denis) Zakaria, many others were wanted by Tuchel and so he wasn’t expecting to be fired at that point of the season after the Zagreb game with Dinamo.”

A new role within the sport will undoubtedly be presented to Tuchel in the near future, such is his pedigree and weight within the profession.

Perhaps a Premier League reunion with Potter is on the cards…
