Gianfranco Zola has suggested that Chelsea player Mason Mount will soon recapture his best form after seeing his standards slip this season.

Mount, who’s gone from academy player to pivotal first teamer at Chelsea during the last few years, has set the bar exceptionally high for himself.

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder has been one of the club’s best performers at Stamford Bridge since his introduction to the first team under ex-boss Frank Lampard.

He entered a new chapter working with Blues manager Thomas Tuchel in 2021, something which clicked on the pitch almost instantly.

The England international played a massive role in winning the Champions League last season. Also, he’s an ever-present for his country.

Zola feels the Chelsea talent isn’t performing at his best in the 2021/22 campaign, though.

“I still think there are players that will go up in performance. Mason this year hasn’t been the same Mason as last year,” Zola told talkSPORT.

Mount will recapture best Chelsea form

In fairness, Mount hasn’t looked at his dazzling best yet this season. However, the Chelsea star did manage a hat-trick against Norwich City last month.

It’s been a stop-start campaign for the playmaker, which may explain why there is no real rhythm in his game.

Mount’s link up with the England squad during the international break has been delayed and he’s recently had issues relating to a wisdom tooth and infection. In addition, Tuchel said last week that he’s lost weight due to illness.

Chelsea fans will get to see the best of their superstar when he’s playing an extended run of fixtures.
