Mauricio Pochettino has expressed his delight at Romeo Lavia completing his move to Chelsea on Friday.
The Blues announced this morning that Romeo Lavia, 19, has joined the club from Southampton.
Despite the fact last season was his first year in first-team football, Lavia showed enough during Southampton’s relegation from the Premier League to earn himself a high-profile transfer.
He’s arrived at Stamford Bridge as a combative defensive midfielder that provides even more steel and stamina in the centre of the park.
Speaking in a press conference ahead of Sunday’s Premier League match with West Ham, Pochettino reacted with huge joy to the earlier news about Lavia’s signing.
It’s very interesting to note the Blues head coach described the newest signing as “perfect” for the club and
Pochettino said, as quoted by Chelsea’s YouTube channel: “I think we all know him, his quality, his profile. He’s the perfect player for this project. We are excited and so happy to add him in the squad.”
Along with Lavia, we suspect Pochettino is buzzing to be working with this really young and talented group of players at Chelsea.
We understand the hesitation around a lack of leadership in the Blues spine right now, but you can’t help but get excited by the rising stars signed and coming through right now.
Lavia showed true quality to shine in a struggling team last year in the Premier League. Hopefully, he’s now able to slot into a Chelsea line-up playing good football and getting results.
It’s no massive surprise to hear Lavia was equally as kind about Pochettino when speaking about his new head coach, as quoted by the club’s official website.
