Journalist Alex Crook has claimed that sources close to Chelsea have told him that Mauricio Pochettino will be the next permanent manager.

He told TalkSPORT that discussions have now moved to the point where personal terms are being discussed.

Pochettino has recently emerged as the big favourite for the job after a number of other candidates fell to the wayside.

This notably included Julian Nagelsmann, who many were tipping for the job after he was sacked by Bayern Munich.

However, it seemed the lengthy interview process was beginning to concern the German, as he feared he may miss out on the role to other candidates.

Pochettino to become new manager

This has cleared the way for Pochettino to get a clear run at negotiating terms, with reports claiming that things are going extremely well up to now.

Crook has now claimed that he has been told late yesterday that people close to the club are of the belief that the 51-year-old will become the next Chelsea manager.

He said: “I’ve not been given any definite timescale. I don’t think there’s an immediate rush because either way the expectation is that Frank Lampard will see out his role as interim manager until the end of the season, maybe even assist Pochettino with what he’s walking into.

“Both parties are keen now to get this deal done, I’ve been told by people close to Chelsea in the last half an hour that if will happen, Mauricio Pochettino will be the new Chelsea manager. We’re at the stage now where personal teens are now being discussed.”

It is wise for the Blues to get things sorted as soon as possible ahead of next season, leaving Pochettino the chance to work on his plans for the current squad and who he wants to sign.
