‘Keep an eye’: Fabrizio Romano suggests there are two managers Chelsea’s board really like other than Nagelsmann

Chelsea are considering several other managers alongside main candidate Julian Nagelsmann for the vacant managerial position at Stamford Bridge, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The former Bayern Munich manager, who is still tied to the German club contractually, reportedly remains the leading candidate for the Chelsea job.

Nagelsmann certainly ticks a lot of boxes, and an earlier report even suggested that he has a great relationship with Chelsea co-controlling owner Todd Boehly.

However, Chelsea are looking at alternative options, too, as anyone would expect.

Romano mentioned these two other names on Chelsea’s list.

“To mention other potential names I would keep an eye on Ruben Amorim, Sporting coach,” the Italian journalist told CBS’ House of Champions when speaking about Chelsea’s managerial situation.

“He is really appreciated too, but [hiring him] is not easy during the season.

Luis Enrique also has some people appreciating him inside the board, so let’s see what Chelsea is deciding to do.”

Like Nagelsmann, Amorim is a relatively successful young manager.

The 38-year-old led Sporting to their first Liga Portugal title in almost two decades in 2020/21 and a second-place finish last season.

This season has not gone as well as expected for Amorim, however, as Sporting sit fourth in the league, although he still led the team to the Europa League quarter-finals after beating Arsenal on the previous round.

Enrique, on the other hand, needs no introduction.

The Champions League-winning manager is still out of work after his exit from the Spain national team following the disappointing World Cup campaign.
