Chelsea manager Frank Lampard named two Chelsea players who are unavailable for Premier League clash against Watford on Saturday.
Having been handed a devastating loss against London rivals West Ham United in the previous game, Lampard is surely keen to bring the team back on track to secure a top-four finish.
The gap between the third place and the sixth place is just three points with the third-placed Leicester City bagging 55 points, Chelsea at fourth with 54 points, while Manchester United and Wolverhampton level on points at 52.
And now Chelsea will be without Kovacic for the Watford game, and potentially the next fixture too.
Speaking in the pre-match press conference today, Lampard said (quote via Football London): “Fikayo is still not fit and Kovacic is going to be out with an Achilles problem. Maybe out of the next one, but hopefully not.”
Tomori has missed out since the Premier League restart, and his return would surely help Lampard whose centre-back options Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen have been under scrutiny after West Ham defeat.
It would be interesting to see whether Lampard will make any changes to the team selection, considering they will have another London derby against Palace on Tuesday, July 7.
Lampard made it clear to his players: “Every game is going to be a tough one and it is about getting the mentality right.
“We want to get in the Champions League right and we can’t let our levels drop.”
