Mason Mount teased Chelsea teammate Ben Chilwell after catching up with the defender’s goal tally with his hat-trick in Chelsea’s 7-0 win over Norwich City.

The “wonderfully talented” 22-year-old — as Gary Lineker described him –deservedly stole the spotlight after scoring his first Chelsea hat-trick on Saturday afternoon.

Bear in mind, Mount had previously not scored since Chelsea’s Champions League semi-final win over Real Madrid five months ago.

He did not appear to lack confidence, though, as he ended his goal drought in a stunning fashion with a goal from outside the penalty box.

“I’m feeling like I’m at it in the last couple of games,” the England international told Chelsea TV after the game

“I’ve been waiting for a long time to get on the scoresheet, so yeah, it’s a brilliant feeling.”

Mount is now Chelsea’s joint-top scorer in the league, alongside Chilwell and Romelu Lukaku with three goals each. Although, Mount himself did not seem to be aware of that initially.

Asked whether he and Chilwell are both vying for the golden boot, Mount jokingly responded: “He’s one [goal] in front of me, isn’t he?

“I’ve caught him up in one game, so I hope that continues.”

Mount went on to praise the performances of his fellow Chelsea academy graduates, whom he said have played “major parts” at the club.

“To see Cal [Hudson-Odoi] and Reece [James] get on the scoresheet as well — they’ve been brilliant,” he added.

“Very pleased for Cal to get his goal. A great finish. Obviously, Reece as well for getting me an assist [laugh].

“Trevoh [Chalobah was] on the pitch, Rubes [Loftus-Cheek] came on. There are many academy boys coming through at the moment and playing major parts — it’s brilliant.”
