Gary Lineker has described Chelsea player Mason Mount as “wonderfully talented” after his display at the weekend in the 7-0 demolition of Norwich City.

Mount scored his first Blues hat-trick to help his side cruise to three more points in the Premier League.

Thomas Tuchel’s men are top of the pile right now with 22 points from their opening nine league games, so are living up to the expectation of title contenders.

Mount, 22, opened the scoring with a thunderous low finish from the edge of the box. Up next, he scored a re-taken penalty after his first attempt was saved when Tim Krul stepped off his line. Finally, he tapped into an empty goal after an unselfish pass from Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

The England international had not scored this season going into Saturday against Norwich. However, he should have the kind of confidence now to really kick on.

Lineker gave Mount a special mention on social media:

Mason Mount ticks every box against Norwich

For Mount, he can be the complete player if he scores more goals.

His game today against a poor Norwich side showed what he can do on the ball and how he can make an impact further up the pitch.

He’s shown in the past as well that he’s got the work rate and defensive brain if he slots into a midfield role.

A hat-trick has to give him the boost he needs to try find the back of the net often, something he challenged himself to do before the weekend.

Goals from all areas

Chelsea reacted perfectly today to the fact they were without injured attackers Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner.

In-form defender Chilwell scored, along with Reece James and Callum Hudson-Odoi.

It’s a real squad effort when it comes to goalscoring, something they’ll need when big forwards are absent.
