Mauricio Pochettino impressed by English star at Chelsea who plays with Argentine style – journalist

Mauricio Pochettino really likes Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher after his first month working with him.

That is according to well-respected journalist David Ornstein.

Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino, 51, is now getting to grips with the Blues squad of players during pre-season.

It’s interesting to note that Conor Gallagher, who’s actually linked with a move away from Stamford Bridge, has impressed with his performances in the opening three pre-season fixtures so far.

However, The Evening Standard reported this week that West Ham are confident of beating Tottenham in the race to sign Gallagher.

According to Ornstein, Chelsea’s new manager is impressed by Gallagher, particularly his style of play. The box-to-box midfielder has been compared to an Argentine because of his energy, pressing, and overall doggedness. It was the perfect formula for helping the South American giants win the World Cup last winter—that and Lionel Messi.

This comes after Pochettino recently told Football.London that Gallagher is in his Chelsea plans for the upcoming campaign.

When discussing Gallagher, Ornstein told FIVE’s YouTube channel: “Mauricio Pochettino suggested that he’s part of his plans. People have been saying to me that he quite likes him in terms of how he’s got a bit of an Argentine style about him, the way he presses, the all-action midfielder.”

It will be a relief once the transfer window shuts in a months time and Gallagher’s future is known.

As it stands, he’s featuring regularly in Chelsea’s warm-up matches. In fact, he looks like a genuine candidate to be in the starting line-up for the first game of the season at home to Liverpool.

We’re not convinced getting rid of him would be a sensible move this summer when you look at the lack of experience in this current Blues midfield.

In our view, Pochettino could be the right coach to get the best out of him and play to his strengths.
