Mauricio Pochettino has suggested that Levi Colwill is going to be in Chelsea’s starting line-up at the beginning of the new season.
It’s been an encouraging first pre-season in charge this summer for Mauricio Pochettino, who’s been working with a very young squad in the United States.
Levi Colwill, who’s just 20, is certainly one of the most popular names in the media from the touring party.
The Athletic now reports that Chelsea centre-back Colwill has agreed to sign a new six-year contract at Stamford Bridge.
It certainly looks like he’s in for a big first-team breakthrough at the club!

Chelsea’s head coach has spoken glowingly about Colwill during a press conference this week.
Pochettino said, as quoted by Football London: “At the moment I need to see him and know each other better. He is a fantastic talent. We are talking also how we can improve his game in all of the areas. He is so relaxed, so calm. I enjoy when I talk with him, great character, great personality. So happy to have him in the squad and the possibility to work together.”
Afterwards, the Blues manager appeared to suggest Colwill is going to get his chance to shine in the next few weeks due to Benoit Badiashile’s injury absence.
When asked if Colwill has a big opportunity, Pochettino said: “We assume he is going to play. I was clear with him, we were talking for him to have the possibility to compete with different teammates. If he deserves to play, he will play. The possibility to play because Ben is injured and higher because he is left and will compete with Ben. He needs to deserve, it’s not because one players injury, different types of combinations can happen. He needs to show he is ready to play.”

Chelsea begin their Premier League campaign in less than two weeks at home to Liverpool, but will we see Colwill in the starting line-up in the heart of defence?
The Athletic has claimed that Chelsea believe Colwill has the potential to become one of the world’s very best defenders.
