Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that he does not want to return as Chelsea manager when this season comes to an end.

He told Fabrizio Romano that he believes the club are best off with Frank Lampard in charge, as the two managers prepare to do battle tomorrow.

Chelsea were forced to enter the managerial market for the second time this season after Graham Potter was sacked as manager.

The former Brighton man replaced Thomas Tuchel early in the campaign, and although he had the backing of Todd Boehly, the American finally pulled the trigger earlier this month.

Ancelotti says no to Chelsea job

Originally, Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique were touted as the favourites for the role, however the appointment of a permanent manager seems to have been pushed back to the end of the season.

Lampard has joined for his second spell in charge of the club on a temporary basis, with his first game in charge already resulting in a defeat against Wolves.

As discussion go on about who will become the permanent figurehead at the end of the campaign, Ancelotti, of course a former league winning manager with the Blues, has confirmed he will not be taking the role.

He said: “Chelsea is a team full of stars. I have a fantastic memory of Chelsea. I am a supporter of the club. Go back? No, I think [Frank] Lampard is the right man and he will do a great job with them. Lampard is a very good coach, he has a great team and he knows how to prepare big matches like tomorrow.”

It has already been claimed that the club are still looking for a new man at the end of the season despite Lampard’s arrival, with results unlikely to sway the board to appoint the Englishman.
