Former Tottenham goalkeeper Brad Friedel has claimed he believes Todd Boehly is about to make a sensational decision at Chelsea.

He told Football Daily that he believes hiring Mauricio Pochettino will be the best move he has made since taking over the club last year.

The Argentine is strongly linked to the manager’s job at Chelsea, which has been vacant on a permanent basis since Graham Potter was sacked over a month ago.

It has been widely expected that he will be given the job to start from the end of the season, given that Frank Lampard has been hired to carry out the role until then.

With no wins or draws in his first six games in charge, it has not taken supporters long to already be crying out for his full-time successor.

Pochettino perfect for Chelsea

Friedel has claimed that Pochettino would be a fantastic appointment, with him and his staff bringing all the qualities required for a big side.

He said: “He is different. He is outstanding. He is very smart, training structure psychologically – how to get players out, how to bring them in – has no problem with the tough stuff.

“Very, very compassionate. One of the best if not the best I played for. His staff were impenetrable. They were a unit. If he goes to Chelsea that would be the best decision that new regime has made since taking over the club.”

There have been no real other candidates mentioned for a few weeks now, making it unclear what the club would do if things fell through with the former Spurs and PSG boss.

It would probably be recently promoted Vincent Kompany who would be considered next, given he was originally on the club’s shortlist.
