Cesar Azpilicueta is reportedly keen to sit down with Marina Granovskaia and discuss his Chelsea contract situation.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Spaniard wishes to see Granovskaia face-to-face before making a final decision about his deal that expires in the summer.

What is happening with Azpiliciueta?

As it stands, Azpilicueta will be walking away from Chelsea as a free agent at the end of the season.

Sport claim that the reliable defender wants to extend his stay at Stamford Bridge by another two years.

However, Chelsea tend to tread cautiously around such requests with players in their 30s.

Gary Cahill, John Terry and David Luiz were all made to wait until the last minute before being offered a new contract.

Azpilicueta very much fits into this bracket and might also only find out the club’s decision in the final days of the window.

Whilst Granovskaia and co. continue to mull over the captain’s future, Barcelona will be watching their every move with great intent.

The La Liga side have widely been rumoured to be the next footballing destination for the full-back.

Sport suggest that a three-year transfer for the Spain international has pretty much been wrapped up already.

Barcelona bound?

Of course, returning home must be a mighty incentive for Azpilicueta, not to mention the cover blanket of an additional few campaigns at the highest level.

Yet, the 32-year-old has settled well into the London life following his move to Chelsea a decade ago.

Some within the player’s close circle even suggest he might return to the Cobham area once his career concludes.

He is a huge presence for the Blues both on and off the pitch, a perfect example to his junior teammates, and to some of equal age as well.

Hopefully a personal chat with Granovskaia can persuade him to stick around just a little while longer.
