Report: Chelsea staff member now expected to leave and join Lampard at Everton

Ashley Cole will reportedly leave Chelsea today to link up with Frank Lampard at Everton.

According to Sky Sports, 41-year-old Cole is expected to leave Stamford Bridge on Wednesday after working as a member of staff alongside the Blues academy.

The report explains he’s set to become part of the coaching team at a Premier League rival.

Everton, who appointed Lampard as their new manager this week, are rebuilding following Rafael Benitez’s sacking at Goodison Park.

It’ll be the second time Lampard’s raided former club Chelsea, as he’s already prized away assistant coach Joe Edwards to help form part of his coaching staff. Incidentally, Mason Mount was left gutted after posting a heartfelt Instagram message to Edwards.

Chelsea in more than safe hands still

In fairness, a lot of Blues supporters loved seeing club legends Lampard and Cole working at the Bridge in the last few years. Unfortunately, Lampard’s reign as manager come to an abrupt end after 18 months. There are familiar faces such as Petr Cech and John Terry still around the building, though.

Current Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel is a special manager that the board need to fully get behind.

It’ll be interesting to see if the exit of Edwards changes the make up of staff, but Tuchel’s a meticulous worker so there’s no need to worry.

The Blues are in very safe hands with a top-class manager, who is perhaps only a couple of signings away in the summer from achieving something special with this group. There is plenty of silverware to fight for this season, too.
