Reports have claimed that Frank Lampard is still expected to be replaced by a different permanent manager at the end of this season.

According to The Athletic, a summer of change across the board at Chelsea is still set to involve the managerial position as well.

Lampard was a leftfield shout for the job on a temporary basis until the end of the season if they were unable to attract a permanent option before the end of this season.

It appears a dismal campaign up to now left them unable to do just that, and the former player and manager was handed a second stint in charge for the remaining league games and Champions League tie.

While it was always claimed to be a brief time, the Englishman certainly hinted in his first press conference since re-joining about his desire to potentially return as a permanent coach as opposed to just temporary.

Lampard still expected to be replaced

Now though, it has been speculated that it is still in the club’s interests to move forward with a different candidate.

The two favourites for the job have emerged to be Julian Nagelsmann and Luis Enrique, with both already reportedly entering discussions with the club over potentially taking over.

The former Spain boss has even apparently flown to London to engage in conversations after impressing so much in the early stages.

However, the timing of Graham Potter’s sacking has always seemed to coincide with the hiring of Nagelsmann, who was recently sacked himself by Bayern Munich.

It was always claimed that he was wanting to wait until the end of this season before returning to management, and with the Blues now opening an opportunity for just that, it seems as if he is for sure the preferred candidate at Stamford Bridge.
