Mauricio Pochettino has decided he wants Kepa Arrizabalaga as his first-choice goalkeeper at Chelsea next season.

That is according to Sky Sports.

Kepa Arrizabalaga, 28, has had a turbulent few years since he joined the Blues.

He did regain his starting position last season and was one of Chelsea’s rare consistent players, which seems to have been enough to secure him a chance under the incoming head coach.

Sky Sports claims that Pochettino is planning to use Kepa as his No 1 when the new season begins.

The report explains that Chelsea have been linked to goalkeepers such as Inter Milan’s Andre Onana and Brighton’s Robert Sanchez, but the club is unlikely to pursue their signings. Apparently, Pochettino is content with Kepa as the main keeper.

It is explained that the Blues could be in the market for a No 2 goalkeeper if Edouard Mendy wants to leave and a big bid arrives for him.

The Telegraph reported earlier this week that Chelsea were likely to ask Pochettino if he would consider starting with Kepa in goal next season.

It looks like he’s given a definitive answer!

If true, this is quite a significant call in the early days of Pochettino’s reign.

He doesn’t officially start in his role as Chelsea’s boss until the 1 July, but he’s got a lot to sort out this summer.

We do feel there’s best goalkeepers out there than Kepa, but the Spaniard did enjoy a redemption last season with improved performance.

In our view, the Blues will be making the right call if they decide to spend big and focus on adding a new striker and defensive midfield.

If we do sign a new No 1 goalkeeper, they need to be proven at the top level and be a significant upgrade.
