Chelsea co-owner and chairman Todd Boehly is no longer in charge of negotiations with Mason Mount and his representatives over a new contract, according to The Telegraph.
It is very clear that since the club takeover last summer, co-controlling Chelsea owners Boehly and Behdad Eghbali have been very hands-on in the club’s activities.
Following the departure of Petr Cech, Boehly even effectively played the role of an interim sporting director throughout the summer transfer window.
Boehly was said to play a big part in James’ signing a new six-year contract last September which makes him the highest-paid defender in the club’s history.

The Telegraph claims that Boehly initially handled talks over Mount’s contract himself, too, but it proved not as easy as it was with James.
Since the establishment of the club’s new sporting and recruitment team after the World Cup, however, this task has reportedly been passed on to Paul Winstanley.
This, the report adds, meant the negotiations were put back to square one.
Since the club has yet to announce an agreement with Mount, it is safe to say that Winstanley has not been able to convince the versatile midfielder to commit to their proposal as well.
Fabrizio Romano recently claimed that there remains a big gap between Chelsea and Mount in negotiations.
The Athletic previously mentioned that the talks are on hold until the summer, after which Chelsea will listen to offers for Mount if he does not agree to a new deal.
Rather than risking losing such a valuable asset the following year, Chelsea prefer to cash in on the player this summer.
