Nick Candy still has a desire to buy Chelsea, it’s been confirmed.

The 49-year-old businessman has said he’s “still interested” in the purchase of the London club, despite the news that broke yesterday at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea are now working under firm restrictions after current owner Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK government on Thursday.

“We are examining the details of the announcement and we are still interested in making a bid. Clearly this is a time of great uncertainty for all Chelsea fans,” a spokesperson for Candy said.

The Daily Mail explains British billionaire Candy, who is a property developer and Chelsea fan, is in discussions with potential investors about a joint move to buy the club.

In addition, the report explains Abramovich recently turned down an offer worth just shy of £2billion from an investor. It’s expected the eventual sale will exceed that price.

However, the government sanctions include the fact Chelsea will need another special licence in order to agree any kind of takeover. The regulations state Abramovich can’t make a penny from selling the club.

Clock ticking for Chelsea

With transfers in and out of the club blocked by the current sanction, Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel will be desperate for the new ownership to arrive soon.

Also, Pat Nevin claims he’s very worried about the situation and the future of the club.

The Blues are being hit financially from several different areas, so fans will be praying for some good news soon.

Candy’s not been put off an investment by the breaking news, but the Raine Group reportedly emailed potential buyers yesterday to say any talk of a takeover has been “paused”.
